I remember those days in primary school when I was with the Nigerian Red Cross Society. We were taught to always help people in need. This has been a guiding principle for me which really formed a greater part of who I am now.
The Nigerian society is never lacking with the abundance of men and women who are resourceful and financially endowed to provide relief to the less privileged ones. What is lacking is the willingness of the rich to spare a little of their wealth to the needy. It has been said that to eradicate poverty share what you have.
A close view of our society today, reveals how greed has turned people against each other. A society where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. A society where people value material things than people’s lives.
A friend once shared a story of a certain rich man in his community, who was a relative to a less privileged family but never saw the need to help them instead he enjoyed the praises they showered him on daily basis.
My definition of a rich man is not by how much wealth he has but how many people he has impacted.
Like they say “givers never lack” which is true. So let’s desire to help those in need irrespective of who they are to us and may God bless those who go out of their way to do so.
