Seyi Shay Reveals How Wizkid Became Her Friend and Mentor

Nigerian singer and songwriter Seyi Shay has shed light on her early working relationship with Afrobeats star Wizkid, revealing how their collaborations developed into a genuine friendship and creative mentorship.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, the “Irawo” crooner discussed the strong musical chemistry she shared with Wizkid, which led to multiple collaborations, including their joint track “Crazy.”
“I did Crazy with Wizkid. I featured him on the song, and he featured me on one of his songs. I also did some background vocals for a couple of his other songs. We became genuine friends,” she said.
Seyi Shay also expressed deep admiration for Wizkid’s creative process, describing him as a “magician” in the studio.
“He’s incredibly smart and talented. I’ve seen him record while eating, and that was mind-blowing to me. He’s like a magician. I’m heavily attracted to people of extraordinary talent. My spirit connects with people that are inhumanly talented,” she said.
Beyond their studio sessions, the singer revealed that Wizkid often offered her valuable advice on navigating fame and dealing with the challenges of the entertainment industry.
“He used to advise me a lot and tell me how people behave in this industry,” she added.
