Health Alert: NAFDAC Declares Indomie Vegetable Flavour Unsafe

By Kosi Tochukwu

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has declared Indomie Noodles (Vegetable Flavour) unsafe for consumption and ordered its immediate nationwide mop-up following a safety recall issued by foreign regulators.

In Public Alert No. 041/2025, released on Friday, NAFDAC disclosed that France’s consumer safety authority, Rappel Conso, recalled the product after laboratory tests confirmed the presence of undeclared allergens milk and eggs on the packaging.

According to the agency, the allergens were not listed on the product label, posing serious health risks to consumers with allergies or food intolerances.

The recall affects all batches of Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles with a best-before date of 6 February 2026, although the country of origin was not specified.

NAFDAC said the directive was issued as a precautionary public health measure, stressing that exposure to the undeclared ingredients could trigger severe allergic reactions.

While noting that the likelihood of the recalled product entering Nigeria is relatively low due to the Federal Government’s ban on noodle importation, the agency warned that illegal imports, online purchases and personal travel could still allow the product into the country.

To prevent circulation, NAFDAC has instructed all zonal directors and state coordinators to intensify surveillance and immediately seize and mop up any stock of the affected product found in markets, warehouses or distribution outlets.

Consumers, distributors and retailers have been urged to remain vigilant. Anyone in possession of the implicated noodles is advised not to consume it and to discard it immediately. Members of the public are also encouraged to report sightings to the nearest NAFDAC office or via the agency’s toll-free line: 0800-162-3322.

NAFDAC further advised consumers to report any adverse reactions linked to the product through its official e-reporting platforms.

The recall comes amid growing concerns over food safety, particularly given the widespread consumption of instant noodles in Nigerian households.
