Veteran Nollywood icon Pete Edochie has expressed deep frustration over the rising cost of basic amenities in Nigeria.
Speaking about the country’s worsening economic conditions, the legendary actor revealed the heavy daily expenses he incurs just to maintain electricity in his home.
The 78-year-old, while appearing on a recent episode of AIT’s programme Jigsaw, said he spends as much as ₦40,000 every day on electricity and fuel to power his residence.
According to him, ₦10,000 goes into electricity bills while an additional ₦30,000 is spent on diesel and fuel to keep generators running.
Edochie lamented that the hardship faced by ordinary Nigerians appears to receive little attention from those in leadership.
He also raised concerns about what he described as the marginalisation of the South-East in the distribution of national infrastructure, citing the absence of railway connectivity to the region.
“I spend ₦40,000 in my home every day for light. It disturbs me a lot ₦10,000 for electricity and ₦30,000 on diesel and fuel,” he said.
“Nobody seems to be bothered about what is happening to the common man. Why must things keep getting worse each day? Can we not improve? There was a time when somebody cut off the South-East in terms of railway transportation. Why must we keep going backwards?” he asked.
