5 Reasons Why Your Skincare Products Aren’t Working

Inconsistency with your skincare routine

You have to get into the habit of doing your skincare routine. Consistency brings about results, so if you are not using your skin care daily and the right way, then you will definitely not get the results you expect.

Overusing active skin care

When it comes to your skin there is a limit to what it can deal with. The use of many active skin care at the same time maybe the reason why your skin isn’t get the effect from them. This can lead to impairing your skin barrier, and it can look like increased oil and breakouts, inflammation, redness or dryness. Limit your skin ritual to just four products, consisting of the essentials: serum, cleanser, moisturiser, and sunscreen.

Instant effect

As odd as it sounds, that product you think is not working may need more time to be fully effective. Most of us are guilty here because when you start to apply a product it is expected that you see the effect on your skin so soon but you have to understand that skin types differ and may require constant use to get results. The journey to a perfect skin takes time, and patience is an important tool to be armed with. Give that product time before trashing it.

Wrong products

It can be counterproductive to use products that aren’t designed for your skin type. Most times people are faced with this because they don’t know that what works for someone else may not work for them. This is the reason it’s important that every product in your routine needs to have a purpose. You need to know why you are using a product, and if it’s not directly treating your skin problems, then ask yourself if it’s the right product for you, right now. Stop getting your skincare advice from friends, family and influencers.

Your Products Have Expired

Dear skin product users your skin care does have an expiration date.

Using a product sparingly in order to make the bottle last longer might seem economical, but the product might be off long before you run out. It can also change the composition and efficacy of the ingredients, which can potential cause irritation or nothing at all.  Keep an eye out for changes in texture, colour and smell because these can also indicate a product has started to go off. All skincare products have a ‘product after opening’ (PAO) symbol on the packaging that looks like a tiny jar with a lid coming off and a number from one to 12. This indicates the number of months you have to use a product after opening before it expires.
