Tinubu Holds The Key To Nnamdi Kanu’s Freedom – Ejimakor

Aloy Ejimakor, lead counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has asserted that only President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the constitutional power to bring his client’s long-running trial to an end.

Ejimakor made the statement on Monday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, emphasizing that the president could halt Kanu’s prosecution if he genuinely intended to resolve the matter.

“As it stands, it lies with President Tinubu to free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu because once the President halts the prosecution, the trial ends,” Ejimakor wrote. “In other words, the buck stops at the President’s table.”

The lawyer, however, maintained that while the final decision rests with the president, the judiciary also has a responsibility to uphold justice.

“Nonetheless, the courts can step in to stem the tide of injustice,” he added.

Ejimakor’s comments came amid peaceful protests by pro-Biafra supporters across parts of the Southeast and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Monday, demanding Kanu’s release from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), where he has been detained since June 2021.
