Nnaji Breaks the Internet With Sharp Response to Anti-Igbo Tweet

By Kosi Tochukwu

Nollywood icon Genevieve Nnaji has weighed in on a controversial post urging Igbo men to avoid marrying women from their ethnic group.

The post, shared by an X user, suggested that Igbo men should seek wives from East Africa, particularly Rwanda claiming that Igbo women allegedly “falsely accuse” their husbands of sexually assaulting their daughters.

The user wrote:
“Dear Igbo men, instead of marrying an Igbo woman that’ll falsely accuse you of raping your daughter, better look outside for a wife… Go to East Africa, especially Rwanda, and pick a damsel.”

Reacting to the post, Nnaji an Igbo woman from Mbaise, Imo State condemned the message, calling it an attempt to deflect accountability.

She responded:
“In other words, instead of checking yourself and taking accountability, go for the unsuspecting and carry on with your evil. Got it.”

While some users argued that the controversial post was directed at alleged false accusers and not Igbo women as a whole, Nnaji maintained her stance, warning against dangerous generalisations.

She added:
“The same way a woman can’t tell an abusive man apart from a good one is the same way you shouldn’t say avoid all Igbo women. ‘Not all women.”
