Nigerian singer and Grammy nominee, Davido, has revealed that his hit song With You, featuring Omah Lay, nearly failed to make it onto his 5IVE album.
Speaking in an interview with OkayAfrica, later reposted by HYPETRIBE on Monday, the Afrobeats star disclosed that the track did not stand out during internal listening sessions and was initially overlooked by his team.
“Man, it’s so crazy because that song almost didn’t make the album. With You was not in anybody’s top five,” Davido said.
He admitted that the song’s eventual success has since become an emotional reminder of how close it came to being excluded from the project.
“And now look at it go. Every time I was performing it, my heart would just start beating like, what if I didn’t put this song?” he added.
Despite its humble beginnings, With You went on to earn Davido another Grammy nomination and has become one of his most successful recent releases. The track has topped charts and surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify.
