N2 billion and Counting! Funke Akindele rewrites Nollywood history with Behind the Scenes

Renowned Nigerian filmmaker Funke Akindele has set a historic record as her newly released movie, Behind the Scenes, becomes the first Nollywood film to surpass N2 billion in cinema revenue.
According to FilmOne, a leading Nigerian film distribution company, the blockbuster raked in an impressive N2,103,039,706 within just one month of its release. The distributor announced the milestone in a post on X, describing the achievement as a landmark moment for the Nigerian film industry.
The feat further cements Akindele’s status as Africa’s most commercially successful filmmaker and the highest-grossing producer, writer, and director in West Africa’s history. She also made history as the first filmmaker to top the African box office rankings for three consecutive years.
Reacting to the milestone, Akindele shared an emotional video on her Instagram page on Monday evening, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support.
“We have every reason to thank God. Two billion and counting is not a joke. Ladies and gentlemen, Behind the Scenes to the world,” she said.
She added, “Joy overflows, and my heart is full of gratitude to God and my amazing fans. Reaching this incredible milestone and still counting would not have been possible without you. I’m deeply grateful.”
